1. Objective
   Purpose of the Event
   The Orientation Programme was organized to welcome the newly admitted M.Sc. Botany students and familiarize them with the academic environment, curriculum, departmental facilities, laboratory practices, research opportunities, student support services, and institutional resources. The programme aimed to help students transition smoothly into postgraduate education while motivating them to pursue academic excellence and research.
2. Event Summary
   The Department of Botany organized an Orientation Programme for the newly admitted PG Botany students on 03 July 2026 at the I PG Classroom.
   The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by the Head of the Department, followed by an introduction to the faculty members and the facilities available in the department. The students then introduced themselves, creating an interactive and welcoming atmosphere.
   Dr. Reshmi G. R. conducted an informative session on the PG Programme Structure and Academic Regulations, explaining the curriculum, credit system, attendance requirements, internal assessment, semester examinations, and academic expectations.
   This was followed by Dr. Anumol Jose, who delivered a session on Laboratory Safety and Good Laboratory Practices, emphasizing laboratory discipline, safety protocols, proper handling of chemicals and instruments, waste disposal procedures, and ethical laboratory conduct.
   The students were then addressed by Dr. Renu Rajan (Alumni), who introduced the various
   research opportunities available in Botany and encouraged students to actively engage in research activities throughout the programme.
   After the lunch break, Ms. Sheethal V. R., Placement Officer, presented the Student Support Services, Scholarships, and Career Guidance session, informing students about scholarships, placement opportunities, competitive examinations, and career prospects.
   The orientation continued with Dr. Sreelakshmi Rajesh, who introduced the students to the Library and Digital Resources, highlighting the effective utilization of books, e-journals, digital repositories, and online academic databases.
   The programme concluded with enabling students to become familiar with the department’s learning and research infrastructure.

   The participants appreciated the well-organized orientation programme and found the sessions informative and motivating. They expressed that the programme provided clarity regarding academic expectations, laboratory practices, research opportunities, and career planning.

   taken and archived by the Department of Botany for institutional records.
3. Future Recommendations

• Organize follow-up orientation sessions focusing on research methodology and scientific writing.
• Include interactive sessions with senior students and alumni.
• Conduct workshops on laboratory instrumentation and advanced research techniques early in the semester.
• Arrange mentoring sessions to facilitate academic and personal development.
• Introduce periodic career development and higher education guidance programmes throughout the academic year.
