PROGRAM REPORT
1. Event Details
2. Objective
The workshop aimed to provide students with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in algal culture techniques. It focused on enhancing students’ understanding of algal cultivation, maintenance, and its applications in research and biotechnology.
3. Event Summary
The Department of Botany organized a workshop on Algal Culture & Techniques on 24 March 2026 at the Botany Lab. The session was led by Dr. Anila N, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, St. Xavier’s College, Aluva.
The program began with an introductory session on the importance of algae in ecological and biotechnological applications. The resource person elaborated on various techniques involved in algal culture, including media preparation, sterilization, inoculation, and maintenance of cultures.
Following the theory session, a practical demonstration was conducted where students observed live algal cultures and learned the step-by-step procedure of culturing techniques. The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions and clarifying their doubts.
