3. Event Summary

The Department of Botany organized a workshop on Algal Culture & Techniques on 24 March 2026 at the Botany Lab. The session was led by Dr. Anila N, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, St. Xavier’s College, Aluva.

The program began with an introductory session on the importance of algae in ecological and biotechnological applications. The resource person elaborated on various techniques involved in algal culture, including media preparation, sterilization, inoculation, and maintenance of cultures.

Following the theory session, a practical demonstration was conducted where students observed live algal cultures and learned the step-by-step procedure of culturing techniques. The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions and clarifying their doubts.

4. Highlights

  • Expert session by Dr. Anila N
  • Detailed explanation of algal culture techniques
  • Live demonstration in laboratory setting
  • Hands-on exposure to culture handling
  • Active student participation and interaction

5. Outcome/Impact

The workshop significantly enhanced students’ practical knowledge in phycology and laboratory techniques. It helped bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application. Students gained confidence in handling algal cultures and understood their relevance in research and industry.
