Two-day National Symposium on Nuclear Energy-Generation and its Applications.
A two-day National Symposium was held on February 23 and 24 under the aegis of the Science departments of Union Christian College, Aluva, Indian Nuclear Society, Mumbai and the Atomic Energy Retirees Association of Kerala, sponsored by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, cosponsored by Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad and the Indian Association for Radiation Protection, Mumbai. The symposium was inaugurated by Dr. K.Madhusudhanan, Vice-Chancellor, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi. College Principal Dr. M.I. Punnoose presided over the meeting.
He said that Atomic Energy is the promise of the future of India and there is no need to fear its use. The keynote address was delivered by Sri M. Venkatachalam, Distinguished scientist and Executive Director, National Power Corporation India Ltd. He stressed on the potential of Nuclear energy and its rational use.
Dr Anil Kumar, Head of Botany Department and Academic Dean of Union Christian College, Aluva, welcomed the gathering. Sri. G. D. Mittal, Secretary, Indian Nuclear Society, K R Viswambharan, President, Atomic Energy Retiree’s Association of Kerala and Dr T.R Govindan Kutty, Joint Convener of the Symposium felicitated the gathering. Dr. Sareen Sarah John, Organizing Secretary proposed vote of thanks. An exhibition of NPCIL and IREL has also organised an exhibition to spread awareness about nuclear energy. 12 papers were be presented in this symposium and three prizes were awarded to the students who presented their research works.
