Talk on Kew Botany
The program started with a prayer followed by welcpme speech by Dr.M.Anilkumar, Head, Department of Botany and inaugurated by Prof.(Dr.)M.I.Punnose, Principal. Dr.Sebastian Joseph highlighted the role played by the British Empire, especially the Royal Botanic Garden of Kew for the exploration of Cinchona plants and its introduction to India. The plants were cultivated in some selected areas of Ooty, Munnar etc of then Madras State and was utilized to cure malaria. The speech was an excellent treat to both Botanists and historians. The talk was followed by a doubt clearing session followed by vote of thanks by Dr. Anumol Jose, Asst. Prof, Department of Botany. The program came to an end at 4.0 pm
